About Me

I'm Jim Clark, a professional guitarist based in the UK.

Since beginning my full-time music career at the age of 21, I’ve been fortunate to collaborate on a diverse range of projects both live and in the studio, spanning styles from Metal to Gypsy Jazz. I’ve worked with Grammy award winners, independent artists, record labels, and contributed to radio and TV soundtracks in both the UK and the US.

In 2002, I was honored to be the runner-up in Guitarist magazine’s prestigious “Guitarist of the Year” competition, and since then, I’ve extended my expertise beyond performance. For four years, I penned the Rock Guitar column in Guitarist magazine and contributed cover features and style lessons for Guitar Techniques, analysing players from Muddy Waters to Yngiwe Malmsteen.

As an educator, I’ve taught extensively at all levels, from degree programs to elite institutions. I served as Deputy Head of Guitar at Tech Music School/BIMM London for nearly two decades and teach electric guitar at the prestigious Purcell School whose alumni include Jacob Collier.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do you only teach professional players?

Whilst most of my clients make their living from music, I repsect anyone who is pasionate about playing and wants to improve, and treat them with the same enthusiasm and dedication I would give to a pro.

If you are at an intemediate or semi pro stage I'm happy to help you!

Can you help me get gigs/sessions, connect me with MDs ?

Whilst I regularly get asked by industry people, MDs, or other guitarists looking for deps etc if I can recommend someone for a job, and if suitable I will pass on clients details, I never guarentee that this is something that will occur.

My job is to make you the best version of yourself as a guitar player and musician. This gives you the best chance to present yourself as employable. The networking and promoting end of things is of course your responsibility.

What is your teaching approach?

My approach is supportive and collaborative, focusing on both skill development and creativity.

Over the years I have devised many clear and contextual methods for the majority of common musical situations. These can range from technical development, to soloing concepts, playing through changes, stylistic approaches and apsects of applying theory creatively. I pride myself on being able to convey even difficult things in a manner that will always result in you playing more musically and having a clear method to utilise any new information in the real world.
